Considering Aikido...

by Cerpin Taxt <eldwarfo@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jul 26, 2008 at 12:32 PM

Hello to all!

I was wondering whether aikido is a good martial art for beginners to
study. Whilst most of what I've read about the art (and the philosophy
behind it) implies that I would like it, or at least find it useful -
I'm relatively short (5'6), fairly stocky and am interested in
developing self-defence, physical wellbeing/fitness and discipline.
However, a lot of martial arts are touted as very useful/enlightening/
empowering/and so on for the same reasons.

I will soon be in a position to take up aikido - there is a local dojo
which has been highly recommended to me by various people in the past.
They do the usual first free lesson and so forth, so I'll definitely
be popping along.

I suppose I'm wondering what I can expect from aikido, how I will be
expected to present myself... things like that.

Any and all advice appreciated!
