Hi All,
So, now that the relatives are gone, I can start playing with the new
Macbook. So, I wanted to try to gauge people's preferences on software.
--Has anyone used the Aqua ****t of OpenOffice for Mac? Is it any good, or
should I pick up (at academic discount) a copy of MS Office for the Mac? i
will need to be opening docx and xlsx and pptx files.
--Any recommendations on a media player to use in place of Quicktime? I've
seen recommendations for mplayer and vlc. Is either better than the other?
--I haven't yet explored iPhoto, so it may do everything I want it to;
will
it do what I used to get with Irfanview, or is there a better free option
out there?
--I hope to just get by with Boot Camp, but any preferences between
Parallels and Fusion among those who use those to also run Windows?
--Any widgets you cannot do without?
--Any other software I should check out?
--Anything I should avoid or deactivate?
I haven't had much time to enjoy it so far. Managed to get it integrated
into the home network pretty easily for accessing files; getting it to
print
to the laser printer that's connected to a Windows PC was problematic,
until
I found i needed a driver patch on the PC. Now it's fine. There are a few
apps where I'm missing right-click functionality, but overall it's fine.
