That Darned Layoff

Rooting for the Rockies.  Not doing much good since the NLCS games against
the s****s.  I think part of the problem is that the Rockies were just
"hangin' out" for a week before the World Series.

Do the rules of Major League Baseball permit a team to play games on days
when they're otherwise idle?  I mean, instead of being idle and doing
nothing, could the Rockies have played games -- maybe against one of their
AAA affiliates -- just to stay sharp?

I think it would have made sense, but I'd hate for the commish to say,
"Off
with your head!" to the Rockies management.
