I didn't expect the Flames to get as far as a seventh game, mostly
because the inconsistency that plagued them all season was also evident
in a lot of the games vs. the Shark.
Now I expect they will do the usual Flames thing and lose game seven,
possibly in OT because it hurts more.
But I am maybe being harsh, I tend to get the feeling the flames do
badly historically in game seven, with the loss to Bure's OT goal in
1994, and Tikanen's (1991 or 92 ?) sticking out especially. There was
also a game seven loss to the Sharks that really hurt (95 ?) - and of
course the loss to the Lightning in 2004.
Set against that there was the Steve Smith goal that beat the Oilers in
1986, and a later seven game win vs. the Blues that year (a series that
lasted far too long). Plus the very lucky game seven win vs. Vancouver
1989 - how close we came to having no Stanley cup wins at all ! There
were wins vs. Vancouver and San Jose in 2004 too.
Overall record (had to look it up) in game seven since Franchise moved
to Calgary:
1981 - beat Flyers in game 7
1984 - lost to Edmonton in game 7
1986 - beat Edmonton in game 7
1986 - beat St. Louis in game 7
1989 - beat vancouver in OT in game 7
1991 - lost to Edmonton in OT in game 7
1994 - lost to Vancouver in OT in game 7
1995 - lost to Sharks in OT in game 7
2004 - beat Vancouver in game 7 in OT
2004 - lost to Tampa in game 7
2006 - lost to Ducks in game 7
Overall record 5-6 (nowhere near as bad as I imagined), but only one win
in the last 6 game seven attempts.
In OT - 2-3 also not as bad as I imagined.
