You don't say what model you've got.
I have an RS800SD and it's good, very good indeed.
Two tips:
1. Before putting it on, soak the sensor part of the straps in water so
they
are "well" wet which gives good conductivity. Also make sure the strap is
fairly tight and in the right place and very im****tantly after use, rinse
the strap under water thoroughly.
2. The stap that came with my Polar became unreliable, like yours, after a
few months. I replaced it with this which is compatible but I've had far
far
better results ever since with no more spikes.
