Polar must've changed something -- for the worse, I'm afraid. I had
used just two or three "hard" straps over 18 years, much longer than
they're rated lifespan despite frequent usage. I had no problems with
them. I replaced them only because it seemed more cost-effective than
returning them to Polar for battery replacement.
But as I wrote, I tried two new units just recently; neither worked
reliably. Very disappointing. I had been a huge fan of Polar HRMs
for so many years.

I think this is the new "soft" (fabric?) strap, right? Good to hear
that's working for you. I've read mixed reviews, although I cannot
remember where at the moment.
However, am I correct that the new strap does not work with the low-
end Polar watches?
I (used to) get the low-end Polar HRMs primarily because they are the
only ones with large digits. "No Country for Old Men" ;-).
