I am surprised to learn that rehydration products like Powerbar
products and Gatorade provide sodium and potassium, but not chloride.
The sodium is in the form of sodium citrate, which has no chloride.
Does anyone know of a rehydration product that provides chloride as
well as sodium and potassium -- preferrably, without a lot of sugar?
Or can I do just as well by taking a salt tablet (with lots of water,
of course)? (No potassium?)
I got interested in the Powerbar Electrolytes product, which is added
to 500 ml of water, because it has only 2g of sugar, compared to 14g
for the equivalent amount of Gatorade.
(I dilute Gatorade 50% because it is much too sweet for my taste.
Undiluted, Gatorade has 28g of sugar in 500 ml. The diluted Gatorade
has slightly less electrolytes; but undiluted, it has 1.7 times more.)
