Oil could come out of Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge faster 
than originally thought, according to a congressional hopeful traveling 
to the region this week.

Republican Luke Puckett is traveling in Alaska this week to see ANWR for 
himself.

He's making the trip with other Republican congressional challengers, 
including former U.S. Rep. Mike Sodrel, who is trying to reclaim the 9th 
District seat now held by U.S. Rep. Baron Hill, D-Seymour.


Speaking to The Tribune by phone from Anchorage, Puckett said oil could 
come out of ANWR faster than the decade many have predicted.

"It takes a max — a max — of five, a minimum of three years to get oil 
out of the ground and into our system," Puckett said, citing a briefing 
he received in Anchorage on Monday night ahead of his trip to northern 
Alaska.

"These other five-plus, six years of what our government and media talk 
about, the only reason it takes that extra time is to get through 
government regulation," he said
