Among other things, this would seem to mean that white Americans had
better learn to get along with are darker-skinned neighbors and fellow
citizens.
Otherwise the society breaks down in chaos -- into the kind of insane
ethnic warfare that has occurred recently in Bosnia, Rwanda, Sudan,
etc.
I'm a white guy and somewhat racist in my reflexes and reactions,
unfortunately.
I can well imagine that less apologetically racist white people -- the
National Vanguard crowd, the neo-Nazis, etc. -- must be alarmed as
hell over the tipping racial balance.
And if you look at things from their perspective, you can't completely
blame them for being alarmed.
But the big question is - do we want to have a big racial war in the
USA that pits 2/3 of the population against the remaining 1/3?
Do we want this in an age where people on both sides are probably
going to have access to AK-47s, tanks, airplanes, and when it comes
right down to it, probably also chemical & biological & nuclear
weapons?
I think not. We have a fairly integrated military establishment, and
gun owner****p is fairly widespread in American society. If we get
into a big racially motivated civil war, people of all races are going
to go through sheer hell.
Let's not do this; it's a bad idea. It may be hard to work for a more
peaceful outcome - and a lot of us might not like racial compromise
and racial integration much -- but as Martin Luther King Jr. said
once, "We must learn to live together as brothers, or we will die
together as fools."
Let's not die together as fools. Like the willow tree, as opposed to
the oak, we're all going to have to bend with the wind so that we
don't get broken by it.
