Sounds like you're going to ask some serious questions. I doubt the USA
will
have any major crisis that shuts down the nation entirely. What I predict,
things will get worse and worse untilt he peasants revolt. Like the
colonists, and the stamp tax.
There will be many years while the middle class is really squeezed by
taxes,
and the debt load goes up. People who grow and harvest at home will eat a
lot better, and a lot safer. With the exception of some folks who live at
Love Canal, in the Buffalo, NY region.
I am also expecting more power cuts, and ice storms that make travel
difficult. Food will be much less trustable. Salmonella, etc, will be more
common.

Yeah, they usually have a library, commonly US Army field manuals (FMs),
other books on things like basic first aid. Likely weapons manuals in
some cases (but not all). They read, go lurk in m.s.
