People have this idea that polar bears are cuddly from all this
anthropomorphized crap like Coke commercials and from seeing zoo
bears.  I've seen a few and I guess zookeepers feed them fish to keep
up appearances.  I've seen a few pictures of zoo polar bears feeding
on meat.  I saw some clip from a National Geographic special showing a
real polar bear hunting for ring seals.  They're stone cold killers.
I wonder how many kids would be scared off by seeing all that blood
all over that white fur as they tear apart a seal.

What kind of elk are fond at Mt St Helens?  I saw quite a few there,
but it was with binoculars and a digital camera.  The Tule elk at
Tomales Point aren't as big but I had no problem seeing them.

SF zoo has some pretty nice ones.

You mean species or location?  The California condors at the Grand
Canyon seem to be comfortable near people.  There's a pretty large
group that likes the area around Bright Angel Lodge.

I was with my folks at Point Reyes with a bunch of whale watchers near
the lighthouse.  My dad says he saw one for maybe ten seconds.

Seen 'em at Marine World (or whatever they're calling it now) and
other marine parks.
