My wife and I were down at Seneca this weekend, and and were shocked
and saddened to find out that while on the rock yesterday afternoon (3-
ish, I'm told), a girl from around Pittsburgh took a lethal fall.
From what we heard today at the Gendarme, she was on Streptococcus
(5.9 G star in the current guide), on North Peak east face. We were
climbing on the South Peak east face at the time and didn't hear/see
anything. Apparently, she had a few pieces zipper out on lead.
I just concerned because I know several climbers from the Pittsburgh
area, and can't find anything out about who it was, and there was
nothing in the papers or anything down there (or online). Does anyone
know who it was or anything else?
Every book, trail sign, gear packaging, etc. tells us that climbing is
a dangerous s****t, and we obviously all know that on some level. But
this is the closest I've ever been to such a tragedy and it's
definitely upsetting and jarring on many levels.
Our thoughts and condolences to anyone who was close to this climber,
and who may be reading this....
