i plan on walking up a few of 'em this december, and i had a few
questions-
first, what boots are folks wearing? the guide services' equipment
lists (which i was using to try to get an idea) all insist on
plastics. secor says conditions are similar to cascades glaciers
(assuming summer) or spring sierra nevada. for neither of these
adventures would i bring double plastic boots, although perhaps my
long stint of mellower alpine has confused me somewhat.
i have a full quiver right now. i was hoping to get away with my racy
red s****tiva ultralight mountain boots (you know the ones) but i have
the slightly insulated heavier silver version as well. comments and
concerns?
second, how are secor's ratings?. for instance, in some parts of his
mexico volcanoes guidebook he mentions sections of 4th/5th. ive been
on '3rd' class i wanted a rope for, and ive been on '5th' class i have
no idea why anyone would rope up. is secor an old school (3rd class up
to 5.9, 5.9+ for everything else) master?
im also interested in what folks think are the most elegant lines up
the tall things outside mexico city.
best,
ant
