I just found a copy of the FIBA rules changes for 2008 and 2010, and
apparently, starting in October 2010 (October, 2012 for single-nation
leagues), they are replacing the trapezoidal lane with an NBA one
(16-foot rectangle).
Also, at the same time, the 3-point circle will be moved to 22'2", the
shot clock will be reset to 24 after a defensive foul in the
backcourt, and the 4-foot radius "no-charge zone" arc will be added.
(Surprisingly, there will not be a change back to 12-minute quarters
from the current 10.)
I wonder how long it will be before the NCAA at least considers making
similar changes so high school graduates aren't tempted to play in
Europe for a year (or two) before going to the NBA because their rules
are closer to the NBA's - ER, UH, making changes "for the good of the
game"?
