for such a magnificent player, it is curious how little he evokes in
terms of fan following. to me he is the most attractive right hand bat
on display at the moment in all formats of the game, edging past
yousuf, ahead of ponting and kp. seems to be a combination of zaheer
abbas and gavaskar at their prime. i expect him to take the record for
the most hundreds from tendulkar (and ponting, if that wrist ever
recovers.......).
promising newer players such as rohit sharma, whose game resembles
mahela's to some extent, would do well to see how he sticks around and
compiles big scores, with artistic grafting as much as truly
scintillating stroke play.
