It is mostly to do with non-veg though. Most vegetarians don't rent out 
their houses to non-vegetarian hindus either. Veg or non-veg is the 
first question asked when renting a house. And even those who eat 
non-veg don't want beef to be cooked in their house which rules out most 
muslims.

It happened to me when I was renting out my apartment. A muslim doctor 
couple approached the agent. I had no issues, but my in-laws were a bit 
hesitant and when probed by me they said that they will find it hard to 
eat anything cooked in that kitchen should we move into that house 
later. Knowing them, it is not like they have anything against muslims. 
It is just their religious beliefs. So, rather than having my wife 
complain for rest of the life that she can't even invite her parents for 
dinner at our place, I had to tell that doctor couple that the house is 
already taken.
