I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts about the function of the
toe flap for ultimate. I have a pair of soccer cleats that I really
love, but they are wearing out and I am looking to repace them.
Unfortunately when I went online to try to find them it seems that the
company may have stopped making them, as the only place that I can
find them is on closeout websites. As I looked around I noticed that
some pairs were considerably cheaper, and it seems like the only
difference is the presence or absence of the fold over part of the
tounge. I am including the link to a site that has pictures of both
types of shoes so you can see what I mean.

My only thought is that the presence of the flap might keep the tongue
from sliding sideways inside the shoe. Thoughts? I have found some
indication that some people who play soccer like them (especially the
elongated ones) because covering the laces offers more control when
kicking (which obviously irrelevant). Other than that all I can seem
to find is some descriptions claiming that the toe flap offers
"professional styling." Not so helpful.
So any thoughts would be helpful. I want to know if the flap has any
actual purpose that might be worth the extra money.
Thanks.
