Hi SK,
I am a slalom board head and I am lucky to live in a windy place-
Tarifa Spain.
I own a few small slalom boards and some speed boards-
-Exocet 58 2006. 80 litres 230cm x 58cm easy, fast and comfortable
apart from jybing. Works well with sails up to 6.8 on a speed course,
up to 6.2 on a slalom course. Fins 32 to 28cm. We have two 58s for
our development work.
-AB+ Slalom 2006 240cm x 54cm 78L my favorite slalom board! Lively,
super easy and smooth jybing. COmfortable with sails up to 6.2. It
is slightly more difficult to ride in bumpy conditions compared to the
Exo 58s. FAST! I like it best with a 27cm fin, 28 & 29cm also ok.
-HTS XS 2007 75L, 230cm x 51cm. EASY. Different shape; double
concave to V. This board is my recommendation as a speed board for
less than ideal speed conditions. Marco Copello still at it and
producing excellent shapes! Excellent with sails up to 6.2, fin
26-28cm.
-Exocet Warp Speed 2006 68 litres 235cm x 50cm. "Traditional" shape-
flat to V. Fast on the course but not easy jybing and not as much fun
as the HTS.
-HTS XS 2007 custom 64liters, 230cm x 44cm. I have only one session
on this rocket so far... excellent!
I agree with the other posts- more volume is best for accessible speed
in most conditions.
Develop your trim! There are so many variables- becomming familiar
with your trim variations is more im****tant to your speed than the
brand of board/sail you may be using!
Good winds, Monty
