2nd session a success

I got out Saturday for my 2nd session after missing two seasons.  At Crissy
Field again, this time I saw some old friends (Royce, Vlad, Kevin Kan and
some
others) but only on shore.  There must have been at least 50 ws'ers and a
bunch
of kites.

The wind was quite a bit stronger than the week before and too strong for
my 
combination of a 5.2 Ezzy and Exocet Cross 117.  But I wanted to visit the

GG Bridge as that's one of my favorite things.

So I was way overpowered but made great headway upwind (that was the point
after
all) and soon there were only about 3 of us out there.  Voodoo chop and
birds and 
that wonderful view of the bridge towering above.  Cold water too, my
hands were
freezing.

But what I hadn't counted on was how hard the downwind was going to be!  

After two seasons off I found I wasn't quite ready for being massively
overpowered 
downwind in bay chop.

So I got schooled for most of the way and did a lot of swimming.  Frankly,
I felt
lucky I didn't hurt myself being hurled across the boom.  Finally I sat in
the water
flying the sail and thought about how the situation.  Slowly I remembered
things 
about up- vs down- wind, like body-forward of the mast upwind and body way
back
going down.  Then it took almost no time to make it back to Anita Rock
exhausted.

That's the thing about windsurfing.  You actually have to think about what
you're
doing.  Or you do if you're me and have no natural coordination...  ;-)

Another great day.  I love this sport!
