What I think are the best articles on how to water start are the
ones that decompose it into sub-tasks like orienting the board,
clearing the sail, flying the sail, transferring weight to the
board and so-forth.


I made the most progress the fastest by easing into reverse water
starts:  sail along, slow down, keep power in the sail, dip a
foot into the water, then go back to sailing.  Next time dip that
leg up to the calf... then up to the knee..... and so-forth until
you're dangling the whole thigh into the water with the on-board
leg in a full squat...  

Repeating the process seems to burn in the later parts of the
process.
