Mac,
I had surgery about 7 weeks before I went to Bonaire a couple years ago. 
He 
used some sort of mesh patch, and this was a repeat of an earlier surgery 
(30+ years earlier). I was pretty nervous about going windsurfing so
quickly 
after surgery, but the doc said it was okay.  Maybe your case is
different, 
so I'd have to go with the doctors recommendation.
As far as feeling 100%, well that took some time.  The scar remodels as
you 
pull and tug on things, and I noticed discomfort for probably 6 months 
afterward.
