If this is your first extension, it's probably best to get the tall
one (45cm). The difference in price between a medium and a tall
aluminum extension is only a few bucks. A tall extension is the most
versatile- you can always shrink it down, you can't make a short
extension longer.
As far as the boom length, you need to do a little planning ahead. If
you're sure a 7.5 is the biggest you'll go, then look around at some
specs for boom lengths on 7.5s. Get a boom that's that length or
slightly longer when it's fully extended.
