I suspect it was a perception issue - where he thought I was
questioning his personal integrity.

He kind of blind sided me: first he's distancing himself from his
shop's system with the "ghost page" thing... and then, when I
question if the system might be dinging my credit card for a
non-existent item/unfulfilled order, he suddenly takes it as a
personal challenge.

In retrospect - if I had to come up with a hypothesis - I'd say
his "system" is just a bunch of web pages that somebody set up
for him and when a customer keys an order into the "system" all
it really does is generate a piece of paper with the ordered item
and the customer's info.... making the rest of it a manual
process... and hence any questioning of it a challenge to him
personally and not the "system".
