This topic has been absolutely flogged to death in the various fora.
The discussion usually involves what the various (english-speaking)
countries use the most, the origin of the s****t, the patents (Drake
versus Schweitzer), that windsurfers are now used in wave where they
used not to in the 70s, and all that stuff.

The very fact that it creates debate indicates that there is probably
no obvious, simple, agreed-upon answer.

So it's your pick  ;-)
