The place you were looking at was Emma Wood (RV park, not the State
Beach.) RV style camping there and a close walk to the water. Not
the best windsurfing at that spot but decent kiting. A close drive
from there (5 minutes) is C-St (Ventura Fairgrounds) with better
windsurfing (if it happens to be windy,) but no camping......but then
there's McGrath State Beach a little farther down the road with
camping almost on the beach, surfing, but no windsurfing.
Next best spot south is Leo Carrillo State Beach (Malibu) which has a
campground, surfing, and windsurfing in small intermediate
waves........if all the planets have lined up. Gets a bit crowded in
the surfing lineup on a weekend. The campground is set back from the
beach a ways, so if you camp there, plan to drive your gear to the day
use parking, then walk it a bit to the beach.
If you're looking for wind, you'll have a tough time finding it in
Southern California for the next few days. You could probably score
wind if you wanted to go inland to Lake Isabella. Or, if you were up
for a drive (3 hours from Ventura) to the Central Coast, it's looking
like it will be windy at Arroyo Laguna (point Piedras Blancas) on
Saturday. There's camping around there, too.
Hope you find what you're looking for and happy winds to ya!!!
